Finding a new home can be a taxing process, that takes time and patience. This is going to be the place that you'll live, work, and play for the next "X" number of years. I'll give you my thoughts on things to consider, and then the top 5 Places that are estimated to be the "Best Places to Live based of the 2 resources listed at the bottom!
As a Native Austinite who love it here, and often considers where I'd live if I were to move from here, I consider a few major things starting with:
Culture - I want to make sure that people where I live will be friendly, helpful, and honest, as well as quick. I've lived in OH during Covid (only a year or so), and people operate differently than they do here. Not bad, just different. They were nice, and in fact, there were some things I liked better than Austin. However, I came back to my home! People in social and business settings are crucial for me! Also there must be an active lifestyle culture!
Commute - If I can drive the majority of places within 30 minutes of less, I'm satisfied. I like to drive anyway. However when I visited NYC, DC, and Japan, I fell in Love with the metro system and I love that I was more active because it was more convenient to take the metro system. So this is a definite bonus if getting around is simple and easy.
Affordability - I Like to have what I need in a Place, I don't mind being on the outskirts of the city in order to save on rent, but I like to stay under my means so I can save and invest, so Rent(after Utilities and the BS fees they add these days I like to stay as far under $2K as possible with as nice amenities as possibly and I find the balance I need!
Environment - I like to have a healthy balance of nature, the city, and plenty of things to do! I love to explore, even in Austin I can still stumble upon things I've never seen or know about on a regular basis, this is one way that being able to talk to people is crucial, because you can only do so much research before you have to step out anyway!
